October 16-17, 2008

The next Richmond InfraGard Chapter event will be held on October 16th- 17th.  InfraGard Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University will jointly host the 11th Annual Working Conference on Information Security Management.  This conference is organized by the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) TC-11 Working Group 11.1 (Information Security Management), http://www.ifip.org/.  The conference will start with a Wine and Cheese on October 16, 2008, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm followed by an all day workshop on October 17th.  Members and Non-Members are welcome to attend either event.

The chapter meeting/business will be conducted during the Wine and Cheese on October 16th.  We would really like all of our members to attend this meeting.  Unit Chief Leslie Bryant from FBI Headquarters, Cyber Crime Section, will be our guest speaker that evening.  Her main topic will be a significant "Theft of Trade Secrets" case.  The Richmond Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Jennifer Love will also be in attendance at the meeting and will address the membership.

The October 16th Wine and Cheese will be sponsored by North Highland and hosted by Dominion at Dominion’s Tredegar Building on the James River in Downtown Richmond. 

The all day workshop on the 17th will consist of panel discussions from Subject Matter Experts from all over the world.  They will be discussing practical, industry-focused and academic related topics.  Topics of interest may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Formulating effective information security policies
  • Establishing and maintaining security culture
  • Security governance and compliance
  • Strategies for managing security in SME environments
  • Methodologies and techniques for certification and accreditation
  • Standards for information security management
  • Managing technology and people
  • Organizing and assigning responsibility for security
  • Outsourcing information security
  • Risk assessment
  • Measurement of security
  • Requirements for awareness, training and education.
  • Evaluation of information security in companies
  • Information security surveys and case studies

As the agenda is finalized, it will be posted on the IFIP website.

The workshop will be held at VCU in Snead Hall, Business and Engineering School, 301 W. Main St., Richmond, located at the corner of Belvidere St and Main St.

There may be a nominal cost for the workshop, to cover some refreshments.
